Hell Razors MCC was founded on 10 October 1993. The club was initiated by Shelley Rossouw who had attended a few bike functions and rallies before and liked the idea of the brotherhood of belonging to a club. John Killin and Shelley had several discussions about starting the club and then rounded up a few biker friends and officially had their first meeting on the 10th October 1993. The official founder members were: Shelley Rossouw, John Killin, Neil McDermott, Quintin Claasen, Chester Nash and Andre La Vita. We had three pillions also involved at that time and they were Merlyn La Vita, Freda Nash and Sandra Ritzu. Unfortunately due to re-locations and other interests the only founder member still remaining is Shelley Rossouw (now Moseley).
Designing of the colours was done by the founder members that originally came up with the name Hell Raisers – the idea for the Razor Blade came from the ACDC album “Razors Edge” and a minora blade was used to trace a bigger set of colours. This was immediately sent in for printing and officially the first function the club attended was the Rhino Rally in October 1993.
In the beginning the club members met up at a pub in Kempton Park every Monday night. A few personal friends (none of these are currently members) were given a set of colours but the first new recruit (appy) that was accepted into the club was Andrew Mostert who is still an active member today.
In 1995 Rob from Cape Town gave us a call and said he liked the look of our colours and he has a few friends that would like to start up a Cape Town Chapter. Neil and Shelley flew down to Cape Town and handed over a few sets of colours. Rob originally ran the club but shortly thereafter Grant Gilbert took over. Unfortunately both these members have since left.
The Durban chapter was started in 2002 by Neil McDermott (one of the official founders) and Tony Purnell. The chapter was made official in October 2005 as they had reached the criteria of our constitution. Unfortunately both Neil and Tony had left at this stage.
Over the years the club has grown from strength to strength. We have a strict set of rules and a national constitution which has proved over the years to unite us all in the same beliefs. Our overall objective is still to have fun and we classify ourselves as a social club. "A group of friends with the same interests and beliefs to party and ride together."
